Why do women still invest less than men – even in one of the world's most gender-equal countries?

In this new report from Stack by me and Professor Ellen Katrine Nyhus at the University of Agder, we explore the psychological, cultural, and economic factors behind the investment gap between women and men in Norway.

The report reveals, among other things, that:

  • The gender gap among share savings account (ASK) holders has grown to 11.7 percentage points.
  • The difference in dividend income received by women and men was nearly NOK 50,000 in 2024.
  • Women perceive investing as more difficult, riskier, and less accessible than men do.
  • Language, role models, and culture influence who feels that investing "is for them."
  • Small actions – such as gaining knowledge, simplifying the process, and making a first investment – can have a significant impact.

This is not just a report about money.

It's about ownership, influence, financial freedom, and who gets to participate in creating wealth in society.

ABOUT US

We are Stack by me

Hi, Madeleine here. I created Stack by me because I knew how intimidating investing could feel — even with a background in finance. After being one of the few women in the industry, I wanted to build something completely new: an app made with love for women who want to take control of their finances. Here, you can learn at your own pace, follow other women who invest, and become part of a real community. Today, we’re over 30,000 women learning to invest together. Join us!
